WELCOME !

Thanks for dropping in for some hopefully great business info and on occasion some hopefully not too sarcastic comments on the state of Business Financing in Canada and what we are doing about it !

In 2004 I founded 7 PARK AVENUE FINANCIAL. At that time I had spent all my working life, at that time - Over 30 years in Commercial credit and lending and Canadian business financing. I believe the commercial lending landscape has drastically changed in Canada. I believe a void exists for business owners and finance managers for companies, large and small who want service, creativity, and alternatives.

Every day we strive to consistently deliver business financing that you feel meets the needs of your business. If you believe as we do that financing solutions and alternatives exist for your firm we want to talk to you. Our purpose is simple: we want to deliver the best business finance solutions for your company.

You Have Factoring Questions :Tips on Best Factoring Program and Factoring Explained !

Receivable Financing - Your Final Cash Flow Solution

Information on receivable financing and factoring solutions to enhance cash flow

We forgive you, and we are sure everyone else does also... for what...? Simply because you keep asking about the best factoring program out there and quite frankly you have factoring questions on this ‘relatively’ newer form of business financing.
So, factoring explained. Let's cover off some key basics and arm you with data to make an informed decision as to whether his type of Canadian business finance works for you.

Steps 1 - understanding what we are talking about. It couldn’t be more simple. As you generate sales and receivables you enter into a ' program' to sell those receivables to a third party. As can be imagined, you receive a discounted price for your receivables , because you are getting cash today for something that would normally be collected 1, 2, and three months out .

The cost of factoring is always a key discussion point with our clients. The industry refers to this as a ' discount fee', and in Canada that fee is quite frankly all over the place. We can make a general statement thought that typically the fee is in the 1- 3% range. We can hear our clients already. ‘We’ll take the 1% please!". The reality is that you do have some control over the pricing in your factoring program, because the key drivers of the pricing are quite simple - the size of you A/R portfolio, the number of customers, where they are located, and their overall credit quality.

While customers tend to always focus on price in this discussion we frankly tell clients that the factoring questions they should be focusing on are more important - how does the program work on a day to day basis and how does it affect my clients and my business processes.
On a day to day basis you are advanced, as you generate invoices, approximately 90% of the invoice value - generally the same day you cut the invoice. Why only 90%. Simply because the finance firm holds back that 10 % as a reserve or buffer and it also covers off the financing cost. Let’s demonstrate a clear example. If you generated an invoice today for $100.00 you would receive via wire transfer 90$ into your bank account today. If you customer paid in 30 days ( you wish!) and the factor firm priced your program at 2% then when your customer paid the invoice you would receive your other 8 dollars back, the 2$ being the finance charge . It's as simple as that.

Its not hard for our clients to see some of the immediate benefits - all of a sudden ' factoring explained ' requests become quite clear - it frees up cash flow instantly for general working capital purposes, suppliers can be paid on time, and you can purchase additional products and services that you need to grow your business on a daily basis .

Factoring , aka ' receivable discounting' is different from banking - it comes at a higher cost , and works on a day to day basis significantly differently than if you were able to facilitate a bank line of operating credit . The harsh reality is that while many banks are pushing back on receivable and inventory facilities for small and medium business the factoring industry has kicked into hyper growth mode, seizing the opportunity to finance the liquidity gap in Canadian business.

How To Decide If Financing Receivables Is a Solution for Your Working Capital Funding

We call it the R R factor. And we are not talking about rest and recuperation! The R R factor will give you a sense it its time to consider whether a newer, more popular method of financing receivables is your working capital funding solution.

We're going to provide you with a quick but easy and powerful tool to determine if your cash flow challenges need to be addressed in a more positive fashion. It's the receivables to revenue ration - hence the term R R. First, take you year end balance of A/R, which is of course your uncollected sales revenue at that point in time. Then determine how many weeks of sales that represents. Calculate this ratio historically and you have a method of determining whether your cash flow and working capital requirements are changing.

So how does business address the challenge of working capital funding when it's as challenging as ever to borrow. Many companies are assessing factoring, or financing receivables. It's a simple process that is only made complex and difficult when you don't understand the pricing, how it works on a daily basis, or the important need to align yourself with a partner that offers and matches your business financing needs.
The process is actually quite simple --- On a daily, weekly, or monthly basis - it's your choice, you sell your receivables. So what happens next? Simply that the day you generate that sale you have the same day cash for those receivables. Therefore the Canadian business owner and financial manager have created a true ATM machine out of the investment the company has in accounts receivable. Readers will also begin to immediately appreciate that they have just stumbled upon the ultimate cash flow solution, because every time they sale they have instant cash. So what's the catch?

We believe there are 2 catches, and when the business owner understands and addresses them the receivable financing solution becomes much more clear and common sense.
The first ' catch ' is the cost. The typical Canadian cost of financing a receivable is 1.5- 2% / month. The firms offering the service do not call that an interest rate, they call it a discount fee. You sold something, for cash, i.e. you're receivable, and it was discounted by 1 or 2% for that privilege. Is that expensive. Absolutely... maybe! That is because most business owners don't pick up on the fact that they are in effect carrying those receivables already, which is a cost that is often not intuitively calculated by the business owner. Secondly, the term ' opportunity cost ' comes in to play, because the reality is that if your firm can generate a good return on investment you can use the cash flow from your receivable financing to generate higher profits.

So why isn't factoring or receivable financing the choice of every Canadian business for working capital funding? The reality is, and this is a surprise to many, that the largest firms in Canada utilize this financing. They simply have a stronger ability, due to their financial strength, to determine how the facility works on a daily basis, the best type of facility we recommend to customers is one in which your firm is able to bill and collect its own receivables, which is not offered by 99% of firms in the Canadian marketplace. Search out that 1% solution is what we tell our clients - at that point you will have a competitive financing vehicle for working capital and virtually unlimited cash flow growth.

Working Capital Financing On Demand? Your Cash Flow Solution Dilemma Solved

Hot Tip ! Don’t Tackle Your Working Capital Challenge Until You Read This

OVERVIEW – Information on how to achieve a cash flow solution for working capital financing as you head into 2017 . How to assess the need and type of solutions you require for cash flow financing for growth and profits

Working capital financing... on demand? What if... just what if you could eliminate your working capital financing issues via a cash flow solutions that work as you run and grow your company ? That surely is the wish of most, if not all Canadian business owners and financial managers. Let's dig in.

The reason you need that working capital is of course to pay of all your short term obligations in a timely manner. Typically those are accounts payable and items such as lease or loan payments, and of course we're including payroll and salary obligations in there. That growth in sales and thus inventory and receivables can really drain cash flow!

As a business owner you need to be aware of whether your overall working capital position is stable, declining, or even increasing. There are some very simple measurements to assess overall situation. One of the most basic measures is simply to monitor sales growth against those current assets. Simple as that.

Example ? - Your sales are growing by 20% per annum but you determine your receivables and inventory have grown to 35% of their former values, then, guess what, you have a working capital solution need . No surprise there, as most business managers intuitively know the strains that working capital needs place on a business.
Unlocking ! That's the key to a cash flow solution.

What do we mean by that? Simply that you have to do two things to unleash the cash flow that is invested in your business in the form or receivables and inventory. First, you have to improve turnover. That's an internal thing, and we can't help our clients on that one, you have to do it yourself. Collect receivables faster, be more diligent in extending credit terms, and control your inventory.

Secondly, and here's where are clients do ask for external help, is the need to ' monetize ' working capital accounts. How is that done ? The most common solution is bank financing via an operating line of credit for A/R and inventory that would address working capital financing needs.

Many businesses though, certainly those seeking SME Commercial Finance loans can’t access all the bank financing they need. Or in some cases, any at all!

In business you achieve positive working capital financing via profits which fund growth, borrowing on a long term debt basis ( not our favorite!), or selling assets .. The latter not our favorite.

What is our favorite then?! It is, as we said, monetizing current assets. You do this via a working capital facility that margins A/R and inventory properly. These facilities, when combined with the inventory component, make sense for firms with monthly A/R and inventory balances in excess of 250k. When that amount is less than 250k a receivable financing strategy is required.

Our recommendation? Confidential invoice financing or discounting, which we feel is the ultimate cash flow solution. It allows you to bill and collect your own receivables and turns your firm into a cash flow machines readily able to handle all manner of sales growth.

Speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor - that's your final hot tip!
