In 2004 I founded 7 PARK AVENUE FINANCIAL. At that time I had spent all my working life, at that time - Over 30 years in Commercial credit and lending and Canadian business financing. I believe the commercial lending landscape has drastically changed in Canada. I believe a void exists for business owners and finance managers for companies, large and small who want service, creativity, and alternatives.

Every day we strive to consistently deliver business financing that you feel meets the needs of your business. If you believe as we do that financing solutions and alternatives exist for your firm we want to talk to you. Our purpose is simple: we want to deliver the best business finance solutions for your company.

Are SRED ( SR&ED ) Tax Credits Are Dead ? We Hope Not! SRED Financing For Your SR ED Credit Claims Is Alive & Well !

Sweating Bullets ? SRED Loans and Financing for SR&ED Claims – Financing Today For Your Filed or Unfiled Claim!

Information on SR&ED loans in Canada. SR ED Financing via a bridge loan for your refundable tax credit is a solid way to monetize your firms investment in R&D Capital

SRED Credits ? Sweating bullets is one of our favorite expressions for some serious worrying. That surely must be the case for thousands of Canadian firms and the industry consultants who file SRED (SR&ED) claims in Canada for their non refundable tax credit monies for their R&D processes.

We're not going to weigh in on whether this tax credit program is justified, not justified, or who screwed things up in the past , but we will say one thing - Your Sred financing is still alive and well! In fact in some ways it just got better, and we'll talk about that also.

Thousands of Canadian firms receive a total of billions of dollars every year from the Government of Canada for their research and development costs. A large portion of their total costs in several categories of R&D, i.e. labor, comes back to them in the form of a refundable cheque.

Naturally getting monies back for your SRED claim is a huge and positive issue for thousands and firms who are either start up, pre revenue, or who simply... you guessed it... need the cash. Many of our clients actually book the claim they file as a receivable, in effect non refundable monies coming back into their company .The claim is, of course, a combination of funds from both the federal and provincial government. Sred claims are separate from other grants and schemes such as IRAP, etc.

So, getting back to the one thing we want to emphasize today, and that’s ' cash flow '! Naturally it’s a free country and if you want to wait to get your funds back from the government by all means do that. But consider also that you have another option, which is to finance your claim. In Canada SRED claims of almost any size can be financed. While larger claims make more economic sense claims generally in the 80k and higher range certainly are financeable.

So how does the financing work? You should consider this as quite a ' normal ' business financing. (Is any business financing normal these days?!) . The basic application involves info on your firm such as your financial, projections, etc, info on the owners, and copies of the actual claim itself.

SRED claims have tended to be prepared by a group of people in Canada who term themselves SRED consultants. They work on either a contingency basis or a fee basis. We've been watching the SRED battle from a distance and some people are making the claim that the sred consultants themselves have become a part of the problem in the industry.

Let’s use 2 Billion dollars an example. If the federal government gave out 2 Billion dollars it’s the SRED consultants who worked on contingency that receive anywhere from 15- 30% of all these funds as fees. That makes a case for not a lot of value for the country from a pure R&D perspective. Anyway, we promised not to weigh in on that one, so we won’t.

What we are saying is that if your claim is properly prepared, by either yourself or a qualified sred consultant then it’s financeable.

SRED Financing claims are financed at, in general 70% loan to value. We spoke of new developments in the industry as far as financing the sred credit .The good news is that most claims are now financeable as your spend, prior to filing, This is called Accrual sred finance, and gives you cash flow reimbursement as you spend .

Is there a bottom line today? As always, there is. It’s simply that we kind of hope the sred program stays around for all those legitimate firms and consultants who see the true value of the program. And consider financing your tax credit for increased working capital and cash flow. Speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor on Sred Tax Credit finance today.

SRED Tax Credit Financing In Canada & Funding Your SR ED Claim

Special Delivery On Your SR&ED Refund : SRED Loan Financing

OVERVIEW – Information on sr ed tax credit financing in Canada. SR ED Financing is a viable way of funding your SR&ED refund and monetizing that asset today

SRED Financing allows firms that have an r&d program to connect today to the cash flow refund they were waiting for - it's as simple as that . Monetizing that refundable tax credit is, via a SR&ED loan, is a process, as is , of course the whole process of preparing and applying for maximum refund. Let's dig in.

Not all Canadian business owners and financial managers are aware of one of the greatest government programs still currently in existence at both the federal and provincial level. The formal name for the program is Scientific Research and Experimental Development program. Most people call it simply the SRED (SR &ED) program; we have also heard many people pronounce it as 'SHRED 'also!

We put Canadian businesses into two categories when we discuss the program - those that don't know about the program period, and those that know about the program but are not aware that their claims can be financed.

SR ED financing is an excellent source of short term cash flow, and allows a company to reap the benefits, in cash of funds that they have put into R&D.

It is probably useful to do a short overview - let's call it a SR ED primer!
The program is administered at the federal and provincial levels of the Canadian government. It is very important to note that the SR ED grant (yes it's non-repayable) is for Canadian private firms only - it does not apply to public corporations the program is applicable literally to almost every type of firm and industry in Canada. A company files it's claim at the same time it files it's year end tax return.

In our experience the majority, we feel almost 95%+ of claims are prepared by an independent third party. They have expertise, credibility, and have a strong knowledge of the program and the government requirements. We would further point out that if a claim is not prepared by a qualified third party then there may be an issue in financing the claim - not always, but sometimes.

Claims can be expensive to process and prepare, and in general the industry has evolved into two types of costs associated with the claim. What are those two cost scenarios?

1. Customer pays a third party in full for time and preparation involved in the claim. The customer reaps the full benefits of the claim when it is processed

2. Customer signs an agreement on a contingency basis, and pays the preparer of the SR ED a portion of the claim when it is approved - bottom line he has no cash outlay and the SR ED consultant is at risk re time and preparation involved in the claim.

Let's now focus on financing of the claim. The financing of the claim is somewhat of a boutique industry in Canada, and requires specialized knowledge around the quality and collateralization of the claim. The Canadian banks, as a rule, with only minor exceptions, do not make SR ED loans.

Claims are financed at approximated 70% of loan to value. What do we mean by that? We mean that loans on SR ED are made to 70% of their combined federal and provincial amount. Example - Customer files a claim for $ 300.000.00. The SR ED loan would be for 70% of that amount: = $210,000.00.

Claims can be financed relatively quickly when working with a qualified financing expert in this area. It certainly is possible to complete a transaction in a couple of weeks, from initial discussions.

Naturally some level of due diligence is required on the firm, and we point out that many firms are in fact total start ups and are filing their claim for the first time. An additional financing note is that first time claims are scrutinized more closely as the customer at that point does not have a track record in this area. Track records help the financing.

Seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business Financing Advisor with a track record of success who can assist you with the ' special delivery' process on your SR&ED refund.

R & D SRED Financing In Canada : How To Finance Via A SR ED Loan

Is R&D Cash Your Obstacle To Innovation ? It Was.. Until Now ! Here’s Why .. and How

OVERVIEW – Information in sr&ed loans in Canada. R and D financing via a sred loan delivers on returning your capital quickly and maximizes your cash flow investment in the SR ED program . Here’s why and how

R & D Capital
needs ? Not everyone Canadian business owner or financial manager takes advantage of the Canadian Governments SR & ED (Scientific Research & Experimental Development) tax credit program. It’s clearly in our opinion of the best and truly legitimate and valuable programs that a government provides for its business entrepreneurs in Canada . So don’t let lack of funds be your ‘ obstacle to innovation ‘ . Let’s dig in .

Many, when they hear of the program for the first, are amazed that they can receive significant funds, that are non – repayable (yes that’s non –repayable!) for their ongoing investment in research, product development, business processes, etc.
And, those that do take advantage of the program dutifully wait many months, in some cases a year or so or more for their cheques from the provincial and federal government.

Why not borrow against these funds and utilize those funds for much needed working capital and cash flow to further fuel the growth of your firm.

SR & ED financing is still relatively unknown in Canada – it is clearly a very specialized type of financing, somewhat ‘boutique’ let us say, in nature.
The government, via the program, wants to provide funds to Canadian business so they can continue to further their research and development and provide Canadian firms with a lead in technology and business.

So lets get back to the financing of the SR ED , aka ‘ SHRED ‘ , aka 'SR &ED'. SR ED Loans are typically for approximately 70% of your combined federal and provincial claim. The claim can be financed as soon as you have formally filed the claim with the government, which is at the same time you do your year end tax filing.

SR ED applications can be filed for the last two years, so on occasion your firm might in fact have a significant receivable generated by virtue of that filing you have done. Our observation is that some companies actually book that receivable in their financial statements for the full amount of the claim. Some companies take the conservative approach and only record the cash coming in when it is received from the government.

So, you as a business owner or financial manager of a Canadian company are asking yourself the obviously – if I book the SR ED as an account receivable, will my bank provide financing for it. Our experience is generally ‘no ‘they will not. Canadian chartered banks, being somewhat more conservative in nature, recognize the SR ED claim may or may not be approved. So if there is any risk in your financial structure as viewed by the bank they will not advance funds.

The private sector of Canadian finance is in fact doing the SR ED financing. Claims are financed on the basis of your firms overall financial status, although we add that even pre revenue companies or companies that are losing money can still obtain SR ED financing .

Every Canadian firm that files a SR ED claim should consider financing the claim if they feel the additional cash flow and working capital will assist their company in continued growth and success. Seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business Financing Advisor with a track record of success
who can show you how to Talk to an expert use this alternative financing as a great way to boost cash flow.

The SR ED Tax Credit Loan : Turning Refundable SR&ED Credits Into Cash Via a SR ED Financing Consultant

Is Utilizing SR&ED Credits without financing them absurd ? You decide

OVERVIEW – Information on the SRED tax credit loan in Canada. A SR ED financing consultant can accelerate the cash flow investment your firm has in refundable tax credits

A SR&ED tax credit loan seems like common sense logic for your firm's R&D claim. A SR ED financing consultant is best prepared to assist you in cash flowing you claim. Here is why... and how, so let's dig in.

If business people believe that time is truly money then the investment your firm makes in Canada's Scientific Research and Experimental Development is true wealth! The process, especially for first time claimants can be a bit of a journey!

The role of your SR&ED financing advisor is NOT the same as that of the consultant that prepares your claim. Probably 99% of the refundable tax credit claims that are in fact filed in Canada are prepared by industry consultants who have both the expertise and reputation in preparing a claim that is both technically correct, as well as .. you guessed it... approved!

Since SRED claims are done in almost any industry it makes sense for you to pick the right firm or person that has the expertise to maximize your claim. The best people in this industry maintain solid relationships and communications with the good folks at Revenue Canada!

Over the years many changes, mostly positive have altered ' SHRED ‘. They include changes in per cent ages claimed/allowed, as well as the filing process itself, which has been greatly streamlined. It's interesting to note that the majority of these consultants tend to get paid on a contingency basis - that helps alleviate the risk and time involved in preparing claims, putting the risk and pressure on the consultant, not your firm.

If you do in fact buy into our ' time is money' concept then the actual time it takes to file a claim and have it either reviewed or audited by Revenue Canada just adds to the logic that you should consider financing your claim .

It is certainly not unusual to wait for the better part of a year for your refund. Therefore financing that claim either as you prepare it, or as soon as you file makes solid ' cash flow' sense. If your firm has come this far in investing time and money in your research tax credit refund cash flowing it now and using the funds for any general company purpose certainly is a strong argument.

Any claim of almost any amount can be financed should you choose to cash flow your claim. Financing SR&ED claims can be done for any company, both start up, and ' mature'. First time filers welcome!

If your firm makes the decision to finance your claim seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business Financing Advisor with a track record of success
who can assist you with your SRED TAX CREDIT LOAN needs.

SR&ED Financing In Canada : SRED Loans Accelerate Cash Flow! Here Is Your ‘ How To’

The Not So Tricky Art Of SR&ED Financing Loans In Canada

OVERVIEW – Information on SRED Loans in Canada . SR ED financing of SR&ED claims in Canada is a viable method to accelerate the cash flow from your firms r&d capital spend . Here’s why.. and how

SR ED financing
(' SR&ED’) is a lot less of an art and science than most firms think. We're looking at SRED Loans from a ' how to' perspective - it's the ultimate cash flow acceleration with respect to the key benefit of the program - i.e. recouping a large part of your r&d capital spend. Let's dig in.

Billions of dollars each year flow from the government to thousands of firms who participate in the ' SR&ED ' program in Canada. The ability to turn claims into short term sred loans simply accelerates the benefits of the program. While the govt maintains that the program encourages companies to invest in the future via enhanced products and services the ' journey ' and the ' wait' for the refund can seem daunting at times.

Certain ' resources' are needed to both participate and benefit in the program. They include your own ability to finance the SR&ED process from start to finish, as well as the need to more often than not ( in fact almost always and recommended ) to acquire the services of a SRED consultant who understands your business and is experienced in the preparation , documentation, and filing of your claim.

There is a significant amount of time allowed for you to prepare your claim but the claim is always filed in conjunction with your year end. At this point both the eligibility and quality of your claim is key. Claims typically have a technical narrative and a clear break down of the costs you are claiming in the process. All of this effort is of course focused on one goal - the refund! , which is for most firms available in the form of a cheque from the government. Typical refunds are in the 30-40% of your total R&D spend, so it's easy to see why the program is in fact one of the most ' real' and ' attractive ' programs in Canada.

So at this point you've identified the nature of your claim, you've engaged an industry consultant to prepare the claim and you're filing your claim. In certain cases claims are subject to audit and assessment - thereby prolonging the waiting period for your refund.

Tired of waiting? Consider financing your claims as soon as it is filed. Enter the SR ED financing process. SR&ED Bridge loans are typically done on a 70% loan to value basis - allowing you to monetize your claim and accelerate that cash flow benefit we have been speaking of. The main collateral for the loan is of course the SR&ED claim itself - loans are repayable at anytime and rarely last longer than a year, by which time your refund will have been approved and processed via the govt.

Recent enhancements to financing claims allow you to file for both past and present claims, as well as to start a financing process around your next year’s claim.

The SRED loan process is quick and efficient, with most claims being financed within a couple weeks. If you're looking to accelerate R&D capital expenditures seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business Financing Advisor with a track record of success who can assist you with SRED Loans that make sense for your firm.

Borrow Against SRED Claims - Use (SR and ED) Tax Credits and Finance For Cash Flow!

In the world of finance more often than not today is better than tomorrow, and when it comes to borrowing against your SRED claims your ability to monetize SRED tax credits for working capital is the ultimate win win situation. Here is why!

The Canadian governments Scientific Research and Experimental Development (aka 'SRED', 'sr&ed') program provides in the area of 4 Billion dollars per annum to Canadian businesses in the form of a non repayable tax credit cheque. The only reason you wouldn't get your cheque is if you had corporate tax arrears, and that's still a good thing we think, because at lease then the government offsets your tax arrears with your credit. (By the way, we don't recommend tax arrears as a financing strategy!)

Your company is using the program for all the right reasons, i.e. improving products and services, staying competitive, etc. But many firms either haven't heard of or lose sight of the fact that the SRED tax credits can be even more 'accessible ' if you will, when you borrow or finance your claim.

Turning your SREd tax credits into valuable cash flow and working capital moves you one step ahead of your competitors we have always maintained to clients. Why. It's simply the old finance adage that a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow, as it can be re invested in your operations for a variety of reasons.

A typical question we get from clients considering the financing of a SRED claim is ' what are we allowed to use the funds for?'. And of coruse they love the answer, which is simply for any general company purpose you choose - typically that becomes reduction of working capital, clearing up or lowering payables, and just general day to day operations.

Financing your SRED claims in essence ' invigorates your working capital.

So who finances these claims and how would be describe the process. Is it complicated; easy, how long does it take? Those are the typical client questions in consideration of SRED finance.

We can make a broad pretty safe statement that banks in Canada don't finance sr&Ed claims for your tax credits. If they do, it is in conjunction with other security and arrangements you have with your bank. Most firms we talk to either have approached their bank, been declined, or simply have not been aware that sr Ed credits can be financeable.

We recommend you speak to a trusted, experienced and credible Canadian business financing advisor who is knowledgable in the area of SRED tax credit finance. That will shorten your process, maximize the amount you can receive under you claim, and in almost all cases simply reduce the time and effort you might normally expend to investigate SRED financing.

The reality is that a SRED finance expert can usually originate a full financing of your claim in a manner of a couple weeks, allowing for simple basics such as an application, review of your actual SRED technical filing, etc.

So, can you borrow against SRED claims? The answer is of course yes. Should you? That's your decision, but if you need cash flow and working capital today from a non repayable government tax credit that you certainly know what to do now. Seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor who can assist you with your tax credit financing needs,

One of the characteristics of the SRED program is that despite providing billions in funding for thousands of firms in Canada the amounts range from claims from 50k up to 1 Million $ +. For firms like yours that invest in R&D that investment can be a significant portion of your costs.

While R&D is to a certain point discretionary the reality is that todays competitive environment forces you maintain the maximum investment you can. SR&ED financing certainly assists you to plough back your maximum given that waiting for your refund is eliminated - cash flow is accelerated under the loan.

While the real objective of the program is to reimburse you for your R&D capital costs it seems logical that many firms wouldn’t take advantage of the program if they couldn’t recapture a large part of their cash flow investment. The main resource that many firms rely on are the ' SR&ED Consultants “that assist firms in preparing their claims and working with your accountants to properly file the claim.

That claim eligibility is a key part of the SRED tax credit loan process as a quality claim prepared by an experienced consultant helps speed up the financing process. That ' process' by the way is typically the most common question we get from clients on financing SR ED credits - i.e. how long does it take to get a SR&ED bridge loan and what’s involved.

The good news? Claims can be financed in a matter of weeks, in certain cases even less time. And the actual application? Just as easy - typical requirements are a copy of your SR&ED filing, your financial statement and tax return and some miscellaneous info typical for any business loan - i.e. your articles of incorporation info, etc.

‘Timing is everything ‘is an oft used cliché in business. The good news around financing SR&ED credits is that last years claim is financeable, as is this years, and yes, next years also can be started along! Your ability to document claims properly just moves everything along. SR&ED bridge loans are financed at 70% of the value of your claim - in simple arithmetic: every 1000.00$ of claim nets you 700.00$ in immediate financing.

Very few business people dispute the value of R&D and the tremendous benefits attached to the SR&ED program - it's equally a good thing to fund your claims and accelerate cash flow. SRED Finance Ends The Curse Of The Refundable Tax Credit : Waiting For Your Refund Via Financing SR ED Claims

Eliminate The Downside Of SR&ED – Finance Your Refundable Tax Credit

OVERVIEW – Information on SRED finance in Canada . Financing SR&ED Tax credit claims eliminates the waiting with respect to filing SR ED refundable credits under the gov’t r&d capital refund program

Financing SR ED tax credit claims
in Canada is an effective way to remove the ' curse ' of Canada's most popular program in r&d capital recovery .

Curse? Simply speaking we're referring to the amount of time Canadian firms have to wait for their refund . SRED finance maximizes the true benefit of the program - the cash flow you recover on your research investment . We're examining the 'upside' of SR&ED - cash! Let's dig in

Preparing your claim is no time for ' on the job training '. That's why pretty well everyone filing claims these days uses ' SR ED consultants' who specifically work only this area -maximizing your recovery. They are the ones that filter down all those CRA rules and calculations around the amount you can recover as well as ' writing up ' the claim in the manner prescribed by the program rules.

The amount of funding you get back in via the refundable tax credit often plays a key role in the development of many companies - from start up to those that are already in full revenue and growth mode. In fact the program is the largest program providing direct funding support - doling out billion every year to your competitors... and hopefully your firm!

The SR&ED program should not be confused with a grant or loan - it's neither, but simply a refund of a major portion of the work performed in an r&d environment for products and processes your company is working on.

Some additional ' good news' on your refund is that when you finance a claim you can include the current years refund of course, but , if applicable last years refund if it hasn’t been received of filed, as well as... the work your firm already has started on next years claim!

The amount of refund that companies receive tends to be in the 30-35% range of the total amount you spend in the program work. The other key amount to reflect on is that SRED Finance allows you receive a loan for 70% of the total amount of your combined fed/prov claim. Financing SR ED Tax credit claims comes with one other benefit - the receipt and use of the cash for your refund and no monthly payments until the govt processes your final refund, which of course can be months away - sometimes significantly longer.

If you want to eliminate ' downside' in the SR&ED program, specifically waiting for your funds! seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business Financing Advisor with a track record of success
with experience in SR ED finance.
