Business Leasing & Equipment Finance – Do You Know These 4 Secrets Of Lease Financing ?

INFORMATION ON EQUIPMENT LEASING LOANS AND ASSET ACQUISITION FINANCING IN CANADA

Business leasing and equipment finance in Canada. Does your firm take advantage of these 4 secrets of lease financing in Canada, thereby maximizing the benefits of an already proven business finance tool used by 80% of North American ( that’s Canada too by the way !) business.

Let's focus on some of the advantages of leasing, thereby giving you some great reasons to consider entering into a lease when your firm acquires assets. Yes there are other ways to acquire assets - they include term loans, or putting in additional equity into your company but time and time again Canadian business owners and financial managers come to realize that lease finance is competitive and offers some of these ' special ' advantages that arent available elsewhere .

So, is lease financing the right decision? Let's examine secret # 1 - which simply speaking is your ability to get 100% financing on. And even if a down payment is in fact required 90% financing, as an example surely isn’t a bad thing. Oh and by the way, the additional costs that you might have to incur in acquiring an asset, i.e. delivery, installation, training, maintenance, etc. can easily be bundled into your transaction. If you went the term loan route many of these softer costs couldn’t be financed and therefore drain your cash flow.

Secret # 2
in business leasing. It's your ability to be a ' hedger '. A hedger? We mean of course a hedger in terms of an inflationary environment. As you make your payments over time the lease company that receives your cash of course recognizes that’s its worth less over time whenever there is positive inflation in the economy. They lose, and you win. Naturally this is probably not the greatest economic decision driver when you acquire and asset but its one more positive in the lease advantage scenario. And since lease terms are available anywhere from 2- 7 years typically you keep on being the winner.

Secret # 3- In your kingdom of business, cash flow is king. We all know that .The drain on cash flow in your company can be offset by utilizing lease financing. Firms with good credit ratings can get great rates these days, and even firms that have credit challenges are able to take care advantage of ' structured ' transactions, allowing them to acquire the asset under perhaps a shorter term or higher monthly payment.

Secret # 4- The lease financing transaction typically is complimentary to your overall banking and debt strategy. Banks or other institutions might have what we call ' negative covenants ' about how you run you business from a financial ration perspective. Leasing can often address your other loan covenants with lenders in a positive manner, but we do caution business owners and financial managers to review their covenants prior to entering into a lease.

Speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor who can assist you in maximizing asset finance needs.

Best Practices On Getting Canada Government Loans. Let The SBL Loan For Small Business Work For You

Information on Government Guaranteed Loans In Canada - The SBL Small Business Financing Solution !

Canada government loans for small business . Are there some ' best practices ' to follow to ensure they work for you, and that of course you get approved? We think there are.

If you have worked in a larger corporation at any time (trust us ... we have) they always talk about ' best practices. They are defined as practices or methods that will ‘consistently show results superior to those by other means’. We’re not the biggest fans of buzzwords and ' corporate speak ' but we will say that it does seem quite applicable to our subject, the SBL loan in Canada.

When Canadian business owners, from start up to SME consider applying for Canada government loans it’s all about the rules. And when it comes to those rules that's where it gets a little tricky, because if the truth were to be told ( and we're telling it ) there are two sets of rules . One is the rules set out by the Small business loan program (The CSBF) and the other rules seem to be set out by those that run the program on a daily basis, ie the Canadian chartered banks and other miscellaneous institutions.

That’s where solid ' best practices ‘tell you that you don't want to be really ' winging it’ when it comes to applying and getting approved.

In reality the short list is really just that, quite short when it comes down to program qualifications. You need a crisp business plan and cash flow projection. Your plan should cover some real basics, and we assure clients it doesn’t have to read like a book. That's not the intent.

You just want to be able to convey a concise description of who you are, what your business is, who you compete against, and how you will operate and sell. It's as simple as that. If you can talk to those key points we feel you should be able to convey them in writing also, don’t you think?

That business plan and cash flow is the key document in successfully obtaining Canada government loans for small business. Those loans range up to $ 350,000.00 in value, have great rates considering that you are a start up or SME enterprise, and additional enhancements to the program include limited personal guarantees (clients love that one) as well as the ability to prepay without penalty.

Supporting documents are key to your plan, and they include what we always have felt were the basics - tax returns showing you have no arrears (after all it’s a government loan!), copies of your incorporation data, a premises lease. and supporting invoices or quotes you want financed .

All of the above data we shared are in fact our recommended ' best practices ' when it comes to the small business loan program in Canada. You increase your chances via an organized and positive approach, and basic attention to detail.

Speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor who can assist you on the approval your firm or start up deserves.

Avoiding Canadian Business Credit Nightmares. Banking And Bank Loans For Business In Canada

INFORMATION ON BUSINESS BANK LOANS AND COMMERCIAL CREDIT FINANCING IN CANADA

When it comes to
Canadian business credit and banking

in Canada (loans, credit lines, etc) it's more than a bit unfortunate that many business owners and financial managers view the process and the challenge as somewhat of a nightmare or at the very least a negative process.

Let's examine how you can turnaround that process with a viewpoint towards success. And let's hope we can get rid of some of that negativity also.

Secret # 1 - Choose a banker, not a bank. We don't think there is one important thing we could share on our subject other than that statement. A good (hopefully great) banker will become a great source of financial and business assistance.

So you've made your pick?! Now what? It’s critical that over time you gain the confidence and respect of that person, whether it’s a he or she. This can be achieved in a number of ways. Banks in Canada are focused on ' cash ' and ' cash flow ', so just supplying your banker with reasonable cash flow projections goes a long way to instilling confidence of the bank in your business.

That ' cash plan ' is simply a solid estimate of incoming and outgoing cash needs, with hopefully the bank bridging the gap.

A huge issue in Canadian banking (it’s not huge for the banks, but it sure is huge for our clients) is the whole area of personal guarantees. While the majority, if not all of bank credit in Canada for privately owned corporations mandates a guarantee we would point out that we see numerous cases of flexibility when in fact none seemed apparent.

That flexibility comes in the form of limiting the personal guarantee, or in some cases securing outside assets in lieu of the guarantee. We have seen cases where the bank waived the entire need for a ' PG ' (personal guarantee)... in general this is the exception, not the norm.

A simple summary of the entire PG situation is that assets and your personal credit history and situation will drive the final decision here. As Canada goes through different economic cycles banks seem to be either pulling in the reins or making an all our effort to make personal and business credit available. So it’s important for you to judge where the banks are in the cycle!

One way in which you can maximize the benefits of a solid bank relationship is to continually explore the ability of your banker to introduce you to other professionals that might assist your business. These might include lawyers, accountants, and Canadian business financing advisors.

Those intro's are worth their weight in gold in many cases, as these external advisors have not doubt proved themselves many times before as they established their own relationship with the bank.

What are bankers in Canada looking for when they look to extend Canadian business credit? It's not rocket science - they look for management depth, a solid busines model, what financing you have in place via debt or equity , as well has how you market and price your services or product.

A final note on bank loans in Canada? Unlike the U.S. which has hundreds, even thousands of different banks and even more independent non bank finance firms Canada's banking system is smaller. Clients who are bankable often focus on ' rates ' - in our opinion the rates will vary no more than some basis points from bank to bank.

Your focus should be on the banker, and the structure, terms, and guarantees surrounding your bank loans or credit lines. That saving of a couple basis points will be non existent in your mind when you get locked into a structure or guarantee or ratio and covenant scenario that you can't get out of.

Can you avoid business credit nightmares in Canadian banking? We sure think so... consider talking to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor on achieving some of the best business banking in Canada.

A Tale Of Two Business Credit Facilities – ABL Asset Financing And Bank Revolving Secured Facility

INFORMATION ON ASSET BASED BUSINESS LINES OF CREDIT AND BANK FINANCING IN CANADA

Secured business credit via an ABL asset financing or a bank line of credit . It's absolutely a tale of two. We guess the book might be called ' A TALE OF TWO FACILITIES’! Let's examine some of the key differences and benefits and disadvantages of both an ABL asset line of credit and the better recognized bank secured business credit facility.

Both public and private companies in Canada feel the squeeze when it comes to achieving the right financing for their firms in the current economic environment. Both the business owner and his or her financial managers can be forgiven for being a bit confused on alternative methods of line of credit finance.

So should you be doing what everyone else seems to be doing, or should you strike out on your own with some solid investigation in alternative business models when it comes to lines of credit for Canadian business?

Let's look at what some of those key issues might be in considering alternatives, the ABL facility, and the Canadian chartered bank offering. Clearly in both cases you want to be able to ensure you can grow, not just survive in business.

Price is a factor also; you want to know the total cost when it comes to acquiring the right finance facility. Naturally relationships are important also, you want to be dealing with the right people, it’s as simple as that.

So lets take a first pass at asset based lending via an ABL facility. It is just a business credit facility secured by the assets of your company. Many firms that either cant raise bank financing, or, more importantly, cant raise the amount of financing they need from banks consider ABL. Hundreds of Canadian firms now use ABL finance as there preferred method of leveraging their assets for a credit line . Those assets are used to bridge the timing of cash in, and cash out in your business. ABL is available for companies of all size, from major public and private corporations, right down the pecking order to start ups. The facility fluctuates with the amount of asset that your firm generates, typically around A/R and inventory. Funds are typically managed through a blocked account - that simply means that you deposit all your inflows into one account, while your balances to reduce the line are managed through a separate account. It's not as complicated as it seems. Key benefits are higher margins on receivables and inventory.

The more traditional alternative to business credit via a secured facility is the Canadian chartered bank. Facilities are low cost and can be combined with term loans. Banks are cash flow lenders, the ABL facility tends to be asset based, not cash flow based. Your financial statements and current financial history will dictate whether your firm is more cash flow or asset oriented. Banks will look to what they call secondary forms of repayment and are highly regulated with their offerings. ABL lenders for asset financing tend to be independent commercial finance companies that are none regulated. It's a little known fact that many of the banks have small boutique divisions of ABL finance that in some ways compete with their peers in Commercial business credit.

Investigate both the ABL secured asset financing revolver, and the more traditional Canadian chartered bank line. Weight the benefits and potential disadvantages of both in coming up with your preferred method of business financing. Speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor today on differentiating that ' TALE OF TWO FACILITIES '!

6 Reasons To Consider Business Equipment Financing . Asset Finance Power Tools For Your Company

INFORMATION ON BUSINESS EQUIPMENT FINANCING IN CANADA - THE LEASING SOLUTION EXPLAINED!

Business equipment financing continues to be by far the most popular method of asset finance for the Canadian company wishing to make fixed asset acquisitions. Virtually every type of asset class can be financed, and the lease finance industry as a whole is not prejudiced when it comes to industry types - every industry utilizes this financing mechanism.

The ability of Canadian companies to realize the benefits of this key aspect of Canadian business financing makes it more popular everyday. Leases are often confused or lumped in together with equipment loans and it’s at this time you need to know some of the basic aspects of accounting, tax and legal when it comes to differentiating between the two.

Operating leases tend to sometimes bring the most amount of confusion to the table, simply because when they are not structured properly they could be treated as a loan and additional debt on your balance sheet.

Let's examine 6 powerful reasons to use business equipment financing in Canada. Reason # 1 is certainly not our most favorite, but it tends to be the clients, and that’s simply the issue surrounding rates and payments.

Clients like both of those to be... low! While many other aspects of equipment leasing in Canada tend to be as important business owners and financial managers always seem to be looking for the most economical way of acquiring assets. There is an old joke among leasing companies that is unfortunately at the expense of you the lessee. It's simply that any firm can guarantee you the lowest rate, if, and it’s a big if... you sign their lease contract. That of course infers that many other scenarios come into play when it comes to the proverbial monthly payment.

The reality also is that when you focus in on rates only you miss many of the value add dimensions of business lease. some of which are equally as important as we have said. Bottom line, don't always thing asset finance via leasing is a commodity!

Reason # 2 to consider is the whole issue of assets, or fear of assets. Naturally you want to also separate the issue of the price of the asset from the financing - car dealers are masters of that one when it comes to intertwining them as we as consumers know. Leasing allows you to focus on the asset itself and the productivity that comes from it. Leasing provides a great return on investment when you consider the asset in terms of return on investment and cash outflows.

Reason # 3- Managements pay cheque ! What do we mean by that? Simply that many medium size and larger corporations compensate management on finance lingo such as EBITDA. Depending on how your management is measured when it comes to economic performance and ROI the right type of lease strategy can enhance that calculation. Another quick example, operating lease transactions reduce capital outlays.

Reason # 4- It’s all about the money ... or the cash flow conservation. Quite frankly many firms have to lease, they don’t have a choice, because when it comes to working capital you are conserving it via a business equipment financing strategy. Down payments are also eliminated or diminished. 100% financing is very often achievable via lease asset finance.

Reason # 5- Your balance sheet. Properly structured operating leases, aka the ' lease to use ' option can enhance your balance sheet. Even if bankers and other lenders add the assets back in them quite often will not add in the entire original balance. Technology acquisitions in Canada in computing, telecom, etc are perfect for operating leases, as they eliminate technological obsolescence.

Do we have a final reason today? We sure do, and it’s simply the issue of convenience. An asset finance company can approve and structure a proper lease for your firm in a matter of days. Small transactions in the industry are actually often approved and financed within 24-48 hrs! You can easily these days perform a lease vs. buy calculation and also bundle in numerous other services into your transaction.

Consider speaking to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor to ensure you're focused on our 6 great reasons to consider business equipment financing.

5 Advantages Of AR Accounts Receivable Finance In Canada. Using A Business Factor Funding Program Works.

INFORMATION ON ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE FINANCING SOLUTIONS IN CANADA

Thousands of Canadian business owners and financial managers perceive
AR Accounts Receivable Finance as a solid strategy for financing their firms. Let's examine 5 key advantages of this method of working capital finance. But first let’s take a quick step back and ensure we understand the product and the mechanics of this type of finance service.

The heart of the AR finance strategy is of course your receivables. This financing differs significantly from a bank loan or more commonly the Canadian chartered bank line of credit. What is that main difference? Simply that under a bank facility the financing is based on your firm’s credit worthiness, with the receivables being assigned to the bank as collateral.

The difference then? It's simple and basic. AR financing is not a loan to your company per se, instead its the purchase of your receivables, generally on an ongoing basis , This sale of ar, via our business factor funding arrangement enhances your cash flow and working capital .. Immediately!

One of the main points of confusion that we find continually exists around this method of financing is the pricing. While the bank facility charges your firm an annual interest rate (plus some miscellaneous fees here and there!) invoice finance is the sale of your A/R, at a discount, allowing you to receive funds and replace A/R on your balance sheet with cash, immediately as you make sales.

In general, certainly more often than not, invoice receivable finance in on a recourse basis, just as if you had a bank facility in place. Simply speaking, you're responsible for any credit losses. Purchase of business credit insurance can eliminate bad debt risk, especially if you have foreign or concentrated receivables.

Finally let’s get on to those advantages we spoke of. Here are just five of them, and if you are having challenges in accessing bank financing these advantages should have significant appeal to your firm.

First of all, it’s a classic short term funding strategy without additional collateral requirements or major emphasis on guarantees of the owners of the company.

The second advantage is timing, and we're firm believers that timing is everything in business. The hard reality is that invoice financing provides you with cash flow on the same day as you generate sales. That shortens your overall credit extension cycle by... you guess it, 100%.

Our third advantage of AR Accounts receivable finance is simply flexibility. No debt goes on your balance sheet, you’re just monetizing assets and funds can be used for any general corporate purpose.

Our 4th advantage is somewhat of a double edged sword. Traditional AR finance in Canada has the busines factor funding your receivables as an extension of your credit department. We would point out that under the right circumstances your firm can acquire a confidential AR Finance facility which allows you to do all the billing and collecting yourself. Bottom line, it’s your call.

Finally, if your firm as a lot of U.S. or foreign receivables invoice finance is a solid way to address this business challenge. Even the exchange rate is taken care of in this situation.

You owe it to your yourself of check out and understand AR Accounts receivable finance in Canada. Do any of our listed advantages make sense for your firm? If so, speak to a trusted, credible and experienced
Canadian business financing advisor who can assist you in the solution for a proper facility.

2,450 Ways To Pinpoint Cash Flow Problems Via Working Capital Solutions In Canada

INFORMATION ON BUSINESS CASH FLOW SOLUTIONS

Cash flow problems and working capital solutions to those challenges that are faced by Canadian business. Are we really saying there are 2,450 ways to pinpoint the problem? In a way yes. Let's explain.

Although cash flow challenges are more than ' intuitive ' in the real world (that’s where we ourselves work) Canadian business owners and financial managers often fear or just simply don't understand how to quantify those problems. The reality is that the actual problem can be quite clear if you go to your financial statements, preferably on an ongoing basis.

Let's assume you can identify 2 data points in your financials - the number of simple relationships you can look at with those 2 numbers is of course 2.
3 different numbers or data points in your business numbers would allow you to calculate 6 relationships, 10 for example would allow you to calculate 90 relationships. Finally, if you identified 50 numbers in your balance sheet, income statement, or cash flow statement you would, you guessed it, be able to formulate 2,450 calculations. It's of course a geometrical solution we have just laid out.

So, your next question is of course ' what the heck is your point?! )

It’s simple actually; the relationships we are talking about are in fact more commonly called ' ratios' by financial types. Naturally you don't have to calculate 2,450 ratios to in fact get some meaningful data from your financials; a small handful will do nicely!

Let's examine quick examples to show you how you can very quickly pinpoint cash flow problems in your firm. Let's take 3 data points, your sales and your working capital. The working capital calculation is current assets over current liabilities on your balance sheet. Isolate those three data points and do the calculation. The actual calculation is Sales / Working capital.

Congratulations, you have just completed your working capital turnover calculation! It measures how your company is in fact managing your cash flow, because as sales go up inventories, receivables and payables rise also. All of those have been captured in our final calculation! In effect you have just mastered a simple way to compute the very complex relationship within your firm on a daily basis as you sell and collect.

Important to note that the number in and of itself is not meaningful. When you track it over time, say monthly, it becomes VERY meaningful. And for the purposes of this ratio a lower number is a better number.

It's also important to note that each industry in Canada will have a different number as a result, ranging anywhere from 2 to even 18. Each industry is different.

We're not accountants but what we have hopefully demonstrated is that any business owner or manager can use any number of data points in their financial results to pinpoint cash flow problems and performance.

It's all about asset management; in our example it’s those current assets that pay bill and allow you to make loan payments. Your goal is to manage the ' cash on hand ' account in your business well enough to put you in constant survival mode - and it's a jungle out there!

In Canada various solutions exist for cash flow problems. They include receivable financing, bank lines of credit, asset based lines of credit, monetization of tax credits, and supply chain finance. Each of these works in a different way, but all provide you with working capital solutions.

Speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor who can assist you with score carding and solving your cash flow challenges.
