WELCOME !

Thanks for dropping in for some hopefully great business info and on occasion some hopefully not too sarcastic comments on the state of Business Financing in Canada and what we are doing about it !

In 2004 I founded 7 PARK AVENUE FINANCIAL. At that time I had spent all my working life, at that time - Over 30 years in Commercial credit and lending and Canadian business financing. I believe the commercial lending landscape has drastically changed in Canada. I believe a void exists for business owners and finance managers for companies, large and small who want service, creativity, and alternatives.

Every day we strive to consistently deliver business financing that you feel meets the needs of your business. If you believe as we do that financing solutions and alternatives exist for your firm we want to talk to you. Our purpose is simple: we want to deliver the best business finance solutions for your company.

Small Business Financial Advisor - Canada

What Does A Commercial Loan Brokerage Do?

Here's What You Need To Know

A business financing advisor in Canada may well never be needed by your company, but that is provided that you and your team know everything about business financing in Canada, have credible funding sources, as well as having all the time in the world to explore traditional and alternative business finance solutions to run and grow your company !

Most business owners and their financial mgrs would agree there is significant value in not wasting internal resources and people time when you are looking for business financing when you lack all the experienced need to close on business finance needs.

Over time, and trust us we don’t know why, we have come to dislike the word ' loan broker ' , ' business loan broker ' etc . In reality we confess at the same time that we see everyone uses a mortgage, insurance or other type of broker to get a qualified, credible ' best deal '. So the middleman approach clearly has value to the consumer. Does it have value to a business? We think so, and at 7 Park Avenue Financial we've proven to hundreds of clients that we have a track record of business finance success.

Businesses require financing needs are in various stages of their life history; they might be in ' hyper growth ' mode , or at the unfortunate opposite end of the spectrum ' financial distress '. In some cases firms might be looking to complete business acquisition financing , or to augment their working capital and cash flow facilities . Revolving business lines of credit are often needed in order to finance the build up of accounts receivable and inventories as your sales grow.

All of the above types of business finance need the right data, help and expertise to identify the solutions best fitted to your firms needs. We always point out to clients that there is no ' one size fits all ' and in fact many industries require specific types of financing .

You could make a case that a good business finance loan advisor is in fact a ' business doctor ' of sorts , recommending and executing on the right ' cure ' for your business finance needs.

The right business loan advisor firm will allow you to get the answers you need on business finance solutions that fit , and , even more importantly pinpointing finance alternatives that your firm may not be aware of , or had not considered.

Naturally there are some that might tell you they can assist in those business finance solutions but in fact might not know of what they speak ! Therefore the right choice of Canadian business financing advisor can make or break your success in Canadian business financing for new or refinancing capital.

Qualifications for a Business Loan Advisor :

What they should your firm be looking for in the search for the right funding advisor ? We're pretty sure it’s intuitive, but we speak to so many clients who feel either burned or let down by past experience. So focus on some key areas such as the advisor number of years in practicing what they do. Do they have solid credible contacts? At 7 Park Avenue Financial all Canadian banks and even government finance institutions refer clients to us.

References are of course critical , and with the internet you can Google anyone in business with a reputation and determine a lot about the quality and reputation and credibility of that firm or person. Remember, you're entrusting them with your financing in a very confidential way, and that's important.

Don't settle for generalists also, focus in on someone who can deliver on the specific financing you need.

Key Areas Of Business Financing :

Business Acquisition Loans

Working Capital and Cash Flow

Asset Based Lending

Franchise Loans

SR&ED Tax Credit Financing

A/R Financing / Confidential Receivable Finance

You ultimately want to feel comfortable on sharing information with this person or firm, reviewing pitfalls, and most importantly, ensuring your firm is represented professionally and credibly with respect to it's business capital needs.

So, call them anything, but call them. A Canadian business financing advisor, a loan broker or intermediary, a capital broker, loan broker etc.

Focus on trust, credibility and experience !

How to Pick a Trusted Financing Advisor

Many business owners and financial executives want to ensure they can rely on an independent 'trusted' financing advisor when it comes to their business finances. How does one pick such an advisor? Naturally in today's environment business owners don't have time to waste, and if they have financial or growth challenges they are looking for someone that can bring expertise and solutions to their business.

We are constantly told that business owners are looking for a firm they can trust, respect, and has, of course, credentials.

We believe this whole area of developing a trust between the advisor and the company is a two way street. It is incumbent on the business owner to make sure the goals and needs of the company are made very clear. Business owners or financial managers should not blur the issues to the point that each party does not understand the goals and the respective roles.

When a trusted financing advisor is chosen he or she needs to be given access to the reins and information on the business and its challenges.

Business owners need to ensure that the specialist firm they are dealing with has experience either with the challenges they are facing, or the particular industry the customer is in. Many business financing challenges are industry specific, so this is not the time to be training and advisor on your business! Most people realize though that many financing challenges are somewhat generic in nature, so although an industry expertise is often helpful, it is clearly not always 100% required.

The business owner and financing advisor need to be able to have effective dialogue and communication on what the operational and financing issues are. Many times there are what we call ' warning signs ', yet in other cases companies are already clearly in trouble.

A financing advisor needs to be given information and clarification on issues related to:

- Sales

- Profits

- Current lenders

- Working capital issues

- Asset issues

- Future goals of the company

Naturally the above list is hardly all inclusive, but it is a solid start to the dialogue. The business absolutely has to have a handle on what the intermediate term goals are. Management needs to have a strong sense that the business advisor can assist in the recovery, and the advisor must be given the tools that he or she needs.

Both the business owner and advisor should have frank discussions around the probabilities of success and the timelines associated with that success. What's realistic, what isn't.

Business owners and financial executives should clearly check the background and experience of the advisor. References are of course highly recommended. Professional affiliations are of course important, but not critical. References from lawyers, bankers, and accountants are often excellent sources of information. The business advisor should clearly be indicating they have the right attitude and credentials around the business owners financing needs. It is certainly not unrealistic to have solid discussions around timelines and action items responsibility.

Ultimately business is of course people, so chemistry is important, and the business owner should have a sense they could work with the financing advisor. However, at the end of the day you don't have to like people to get the job done ( it certainly helps though!). Credibility and experience are ultimately always at the top of the list.

All engagements should of course be documented properly re success, work fees, etc. A credible business financing advisor will of course be willing to sign any required non-disclosure document.

In summary, a trusted business financing advisor is a valuable ' out of the company ' asset to any firm. Business owners and financial mangers should choose such an advisor carefully, and pay important attention to the qualities and capabilities that advisor can bring to the table, and ultimately, the firms success.

Business Financing Advisor Needs? Worth Their Weight In Gold Corporate Financial Advisors

Why You Don’t Need A Business Financing Advisor : Or Do You?

OVERVIEW – Information on the services of a business financing advisor. What are the benefits of using corporate financing advisors to source operating and growth needs

Business financing advisor needs arise around the different timeframes your company finds itself in. The size of your firm and the 'stage of life' are key components of understanding the need (or lack of need) for funding and longer term growth.

Do you actually though need corporate financial advisory help? You categorically do not if you:

Understand all your finance options and can access all funding sources with your own expertise – you understand all sources of traditional and alternative business finance

Are profitable and cash flow positive and can grow at any rate you wish

Have all the working capital needs you require

Not in that category? Let's dig in!

The majority of business owners/financial mgrs we meet are focused on the challenges of improving their business from a finance and funding perspective. They are looking for the competitive edge.

The debate rages on as to whether the Great Recession of 2008-2009 still has lingering after effects on the ability to access capital. Closer to reality is the fact that bank credit requirements (in Canada) haven't changed. They requirements are clear: good financials, collateral, solid business plans and owner financial commitment.

When business can't for any reason access the bank capital they need they are confronted with how to expand their companies, refinance, and get a business credit line that makes sense. Many new ' niche' alternative financing sources are available to access capital.

Enter, stage left, the business financing advisor. He or she typically has a background in both SME COMMERCIAL FINANCE
needs as well as having worked with, or for larger firms who seem to master finance requirements with resources often not available to small or mid market firms.

More often than not your needs in the start up to SME stage are focused on specific transactions and needs. The goal? Improve your chances of success and timing in business finance needs! Those needs are in the areas of:

Bank credit lines

Asset based lines of credit

Current Asset Financing ( a/r , inventory, tax credits)

Real estate financing

Acquistion finance

Equipment Financing

Sale leasebacks/bridge loans

Purchase Order Financing

Sales/Royalty Finance

The requirements you need to assess a good business financing advisor? They are experience, credibility, expertise, track record, and cost.

So, do you need a business corporate finance advisor? It's your call. Tuition is very costly in the school of experience when it comes to making the wrong choices. Big business today is big on ' outsourcing’. SME firms should consider outsourcing their financing needs, utilizing a corporate financial outsider to help them access opportunities and advantages in the new landscape of business financing in Canada.
