Financing Sr&ed Credits – Access Working Capital Via SR ED Discounting

Financing Your SR&ED Credits Promptly and Successfully Is A Thing To Behold !

Information on how finance SR&ED credits for working capital . Understanding the benefits of financing SR ED to accelerate recovery of your r&d capital investments

Canadian business owners and financial managers should consider financing sr&ed credits as a source of working capital and cash flow. It is a unique and alternative financing strategy that monetizes your Sr&Ed tax credit, and has no long term effects of adding debt to your balance sheet. All you are doing is simply ‘cash flowing’ or receiving your refund now instead of waiting for a potentially long time for your government refund cheque.

Business owners who file claims under the program already are keenly aware of the power of this great Canadian government program. Hundreds of Millions of dollars are refunding annually to your firm and your competitors – why not get a step ahead of the competition and turn that SR ED credit into immediate working capital.

Naturally the amount of your sred financing is related very directly to the total amount of your filed SR ED claim. Therefore it is in the best interests of every Canadian business owner who files under the program to maximize the size of their claim. They do that by working with a solid accountant or sred consultant who understands the true nature of the program. It is a misnomer that your research and development must be ‘successful ‘in the true sense of the word. The reality is that a proper sred claim is often increased simply by proving that you had significant trial and error in those business processes and research that you are documenting.

Anyway, you are aware of the program; you have filed a claim, or are in the process of filing a claim. What now? Consider financing the claim and turning your refund into immediate cash. Clients we work worthy with typically utilize funds in a SR ED financing to reduce payables, invest in additional research, buy equipment, or focus on investing in more direct marketing and sales The bottom line is that when you finance you SR&ED claim funds can be used for any worthwhile corporate purpose .

How does SR ED funding work? It’s really complimentary to any type of business financing you have ever done. You are not taking on debt; you are simply converting a receivable, i.e. your SR&ED credit, into cash. The best and most easy way to think of a sred financing is simply that you are factoring or discounting your claim. The funds will be repaid to the SR ED lender when you claim is approved by the government and your provincial government. (There is a Federal and Provincial component to each Sr&Ed claim)

You can access approximately 70% of the total claim you have filed. If the claim has already been approved by Ottawa and you are just waiting for the confirmed refund the 70% loan to value we just referred to can even be increased in many cases.

Even more sophisticated firms that finance their SR ED claims annually are not aware that under the right circumstances they can receive funds even prior to filing! That process is called a Sr&Ed accrual loan. That’s really staying one step ahead of the competition!

Financing SRED claims in Canada is a boutique financing. You accomplish it successfully when you work with a trusted, credible and experienced financing advisor re sred claims. The process involves a simply business financing application, copies of your sred filing, and miscellaneous business back up material to substantiate the sred loan. The total focus of the loan relies heavily on the actual claim itself, not the overall credit worthiness of your claim, as some might believe.

If you are filing sred you can stay ahead of the competition by considering of financing your claim. It’s a simple process that can be completed in a couple of weeks with your full co operation of back up info, etc. Your sred claim is already not repayable to the government, as it’s a grant, so consider supercharging that program by immediately monetizing your claim in valuable cash flow and working capital.

SR&ED Financing - Cash Flow via Tax Credit Financing

A Better Way To Take Advantage Of Your Sr&ED Refund ? We've Got One!

Information on Canada's SR&ED program. The ability to cash flow finance your SRED credit is a potential key benefit when your firm takes advantage of the SR ED refundable tax credit

The Sred program for tax credits is one of a small handful of government programs in Canada that in a very direct fashion turn credits into real cash flow and working capital that is non repayable . When business owners find out that they don’t have to wait anywhere from 3-12 months for their refund, and that they can discount, or monetize that tax credit now they are pleasantly surprised.

The question then becomes simply understanding the mechanics and benefits of such a financing – i.e... answers to the basic questions –

How much can I get?

What does it Cost?

What is involved?

What are the benefits of financing my tax credit now versus waiting for the cheque from the federal and provincial governments in Canada

Let’s cover off some of the answers and the basics you need to know to make an informed decision in this regard.

Business owners that either have prepared SRED claims in the past , or who are preparing them for the first time are always advised by their accountants and sred consultants as to how much the claim will be for . The reality is that this claim is filed at the same time you file your corporate tax return. If you have highly confident that you will receive the full amount of your claim we see many clients actually booking this future cheque as an ‘ account receivable ‘ – i.e. money that is due their firm just as if it was a sale to a customer .

So when you finance that claim you are dealing with an absolute amount. But the one thing to understand is that generally advances under the SRED tend to be in the 70% range based on the total value of the claim. So for example $ 300,000 dollar claim filed by your firm has the potential to net you 210,000.00 as a working capital loan should you choose to cash flow or monetize that claim now.

Although we see some claims as much as a million dollars from clients, the reality is that most claims tend to be in the 200 – 500k range, some smaller, some larger .

On to costs. Generally the overall size and quality of your claim, coupled with the amount will dictate the costs of financing the claim. A few key points should be kept in mind, and they clearly are in the category of ‘benefits ‘. That is to say that when you undertake a SRED loan you receive 70% of the claim immediately – there are no payments made unlike a regular loan, and you receive the final 30% of the claim when the refund is made by CRA, or, if you choose, when they indicate in writing or via their technical audit that the claim has been approved.

The financing costs are deducted out of this final 30%. So clearly the overall benefit of financing your SRED claim revolves around taking that cash and working capital and putting it to work in your business right away. Putting those funds to work might mean acquiring new equipment, reducing payables, investing in sales and marketing of your product services, etc.

A tax credit sred financing loan is not unlike any business financing. An application with typical business background data is completed , one of the key additional pieces being of course the actual sred claim you have filed, and , in some cases, proof of your success in previous years .

We advise clients the whole application and diligence process takes about 2- 3 weeks, so if you are focused on financing your sred claim you should undertake your sred financing negotiations as soon as you have made up your mind to finance the claim.

Everyone agrees the SRED program is the government’s way of encouraging in a measurable way (their cash back to your firm!) research and development. If you have filed claims in the past, or are filing for the first time you should also investigate the benefits of financing your claims.

Its non repayable money – why not put it work as early as possible to grow sales and profits and improve you overall financial picture. That’s a solid business financing strategy. Seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor who can assist you in cash flowing your claim,

Sred Tax Credit Financing : Your Backup Cash Flow Plan For Your R&D Capital Investment

SRED Tax Credit Financing – 3 Things you need to Know

Information on the benefits of SR&ED ( sred ) tax credit financing in Canada. Here's what business owners and financial mgrs who participate in Canada's research refund program need to know!

Canadian business owners and financial managers who are not as conversant with Canada’s SRED program as much as they would like to be pose three major questions when we sit down with them and talk about SRED ( aka (Sr&Ed) and Sred financing . Typical questions include”

What is the program – am I eligible

How long will I have to wait for the money

How can I monetize of cash flow my sred claim for immediate working capital now?

Let’s examine the basic thing you need to know around those three key areas.

Canada’s sred program is without a doubt the most powerful program when the business owner asks themselves – ‘ What assistance is available in the form of government loans and grants ‘ – a typical question often asked by every Canadian business owner . And the good news is that not only is the sred program available to virtually every type of industry in Canada, the funds coming to you under that program are non – repayable .

The program basics are simply that sred was set up to encourage innovation in products, technology, and business processes. A very heft ‘rebate ‘comes back to your firm in the form of a large percentage of the actual expenses you have incurred in the research and development area.

Naturally for many businesses R&D is the key driver that allows your firm to stay competitive and ahead of the pack, so the ability to recover a large part of those expenses at the governments cost is a huge benefit to Canadian business. And when you are able to both file a sred claim and be armed with the knowledge that it is financeable is clearly a powerful win win strategy.

Many business owners are also not aware that the credit can be claimed for the previous two years, so this is one case where playing catch up is a good thing. To determine eligibility for a sred speak to your accountant or what is known as a sred consultant.

‘So when does our firm get the actual money ‘?’ is one of the next major questions customers pose. Here are the basics around that issue. Naturally do receive funds you have to file your claim – this is done at the time you and your accountants submit your year end corporate tax filings. In fact the sred claim must in fact be filed at this time to maintain your eligibility. The key issues you have to know about are that you want to ensure you have a claim that is filed in a timely fashion, as per above.

At the same time focus on the quality of your claim – by now you should be working closely with your accountant or sred consultant to ensure you claim is properly documented . Recent new process at Canada Revenue Agency are clearly, in our opinion, focus on weeding out the ‘wheat from the chaff’, so to speak.

You want to ensure your claim has been filled out with the proper form – there is even an online process you can utilize. Your ability to succinctly make your claim, and, as importantly, back it up with the proper documentation will ensure much higher probability of approval. In some cases the claim might be partially disallowed if rationale, submission style, and back up info don’t conform to what the sred folks want to see.

Now lets focus on what to most of our clients is the most important aspect of the sred program process – which is ‘getting the money ‘! Here we advised clients you have two options, you can wait for the cheque which may take months and in some cases a year, or you also have the option to finance your claim immediately. We are all familiar with consumer programs which provide immediate cash for their personal tax credit rebates – essentially we are talking about the same thing.

Select a trusted business financing advisor who is credible and experienced in sred financing. That will allow you to complete a basic financing application, undergo the standard due diligence that any business financing might entail, and then proceed to documentation of the sred financing, in essence you ‘ sell’ your tax credit in return for immediate cash now .

Clients ask ‘ how much can we get ‘ and the rule of thumb in sred financing is generally 70% - the balance is held back and remitted to your firm on final approval of your claim by CRA . No payments are made in the interim (that’s a good thing) and you receive the remaining 30%, less financing costs at final closure on the claim.

So now you have taken a double advantage of one of Canada’s best programs for business – you have filed and received approval for a non repayable grant for a significant portion of your r&d expenses, and , as importantly you have monetized or cash flowed that claim . That’s great Canadian business follow through.

How To Decide If SR&ED Financing For Your CRA SRED Is Right For Your Firm

Would Cash Flowing Your CRA SR&ED Claim Work For You ? We Won’t Bore You With The 4 Billion Details

OVERVIEW – Information on Sr&ed financing bridge loans. The ability to cash flow your CRA Sred receivable provides valuable cash flow today - eliminating the waiting!

SR&ED Financing; We won't bore you with the 4 Billion details. We are of course talking about the CRA Sred program and the billions ( around 3-4 Billion dollars annually ! ) of sred grant funds that are of course non repayable and distributed to Canadian privately owned firms on a yearly basis . Let's dig in.

If you know the program and you know what we are talking about as a Canadian business owner or financial manager then you're ahead of the game already. The real basics are of course that the program is technically called the Scientific Research and Experimental Development Program - aka SR&ED, providing those billions of dollars we talked about back to firms such as yours in the form of non-repayable grants to literally all sectors of Canadian business.

So we are focusing on your decision as a claimant to wait for your refund on your expenditures, or consider the option of financing the claim to accelerate your working capital and cash flow. We're all familiar with the cliché that size isn't important - but in the case of your CRA Sred claim it plays a bit of a role in the overall ability to finance your claim.

We have to backtrack a bit and first of all answer one of our clients typical first questions, which is simply - is a sred financing achievable and who actually finances these claims ? In Canada we are aware of one of the chartered banks that finances sred claims, we have a strong opinion that the overall financing of your claim with a bank is subject to many other bank criteria.

We think you know what we are getting at, so the reality is that sred claims are financed 99% of the time by the private sector via boutique firms. Therefore we encourage readers to seek the services of a trusted and credible and experienced sred financing expert who can guide them thru the process.

So once you have found your sred partner firm in this area we again circle back to size. In general Canadian claims in excess of 250k tend to be financed more efficiently and economically for both the lender and yourself. Claims are financed as a general rule at 70% of the LTV relationship, referring of course to loan to value. So on a 250k claim you would net 70% of your combined federal and provincial claim.

You would consider financing your sr&Ed under the following conditions - as a first time or previous filer you have confidence your claim was prepared by an experienced party. You also should be in need of the cash flow (who isn't) as sred rates are typically higher than traditional financing rates. Timing is everything and typically a sred financing can be achieved in 2-3 weeks, with the usual due diligence around your claim, the collateralizing of the claim, and any related paperwork and applications.

If your company can put the cash flow to use to retire term debt or payables, increase sales, or, dare we say, to start the R&D re investment process all over you are a strong candidate to finance your sr&Ed.

SR & ED (SR ED) Financing / Factoring In Canada

Sr&ed Program - Going Going ..Who Knows : SR&ED Financing - Here!

OVERVIEfW – Information on the financing of refundable tax credits in Canada. The SR&ED program provides valuable capital to businesses investing in r&d capital programs - SR ED Bridge loans make sense - here is why !

SR&ED refundable tax credits are in the news a lot these days. Things seem to be always changing, sometimes in a big way, sometimes less. The one constant? SR&ED Financing ! It's always there - always available. Let's dig in.

Top experts tell us that in the last 7 years payouts on SR&ED claims have reduced by over 5 Billion dollars - suffice to say billions are still being paid on thousands of current claims. The gov't seems to be asking anyone with interest to provide guidance on the future of the program.

Business owners hate uncertainty. Who doesn’t? The one constant in SRED? Cash Flowing Your Claim!

SR & ED (SR ED) factoring is a viable consideration for any Canadian company that files SR ED claims and is looking for additional working capital. Not all Canadian business owners and financial managers are aware that SR ED claims can be monetized (financed!).

For an overview of SR ED financing it’s important for us to validate some of the basics -

- Have you filed a SR ED CLAIM?

- How much was the dollar amount of the claim

- Who prepared the claim?

- What amount of cash or working capital do you need in conjunction with the claim filed?

If you are looking for cash flow with respect to your Canadian SR ED claim you either have working capital financing in place now with your bank or finance firm (a factoring company perhaps) or your firm is self financing and you are looking for the SR ED to supplement additional cash flow.

Canadian business owners and financial managers are aware that when they finance their receivables and inventory these ' current assets ' are' margined ‘. By margining we of course mean the amount of funds you can borrow against these assets.

In SR ED financing you are generally financed 70% of your claim, and that is the combined total of the Federal and Provincial claim.

So if you have filed a SR ED claim, of say, for example, $ 350.000.oo you are eligible for 70% of that amount, or 245,000.00

Funds can be advanced as soon as you have filed the claim, but not before. Naturally it is somewhat important to ensure your claim was filed by a qualified party - usually an accounting firm or consultant. It's these consultants that are in the field daily on the program, wresting with all sorts of changes around Form 4088! ... Defining and backing up your project.

SR ED financing is outside your normal current financing arrangements. The SR ED is collateralized separately - it is in essence a short term working capital loan that is repaid when the government sends you your chq, Most Canadian business owners do not want to wait, 3, 6, 12 months of more for a cheque for a substantial amount that is in effect a non repayable grant from the government. The Canadian government continues to pour well in excess of a billion dollars into the program, and if your firm qualifies for a SR ED claim -

1. Why wouldn’t you use the program?

2. Why wouldn’t you accelerate the cash flow from the grant by financing your SR ED claim?

SR ED financing is a boutique small industry in Canada - business owners are cautioned to work with a qualified, credible, and experience party who will ensure they are maximizing financing capabilities under the program.

In summary, Canadian firms who are eligible to file a SR ED claim. should do so. What firm would not want to receive a cash non repayable cheque from Ottawa! If you can wait for the funding, and don’t need additional cash flow, great, if you wish to arrange interim financing for your claim enlist the services of a trusted and credible SR ED financier. In a matter of a couple of weeks your working capital and cash flow will be augmented vis a vis your SR ED financing. SR ED Financing and factoring - a great Canadian alternative financing strategy.

SR ED Financing Via Sred Loans : A SR&ED Tax Credit Loan Monetization Strategy That Works

Is Your Company Taking Advantage Of SR&ED Loan Financing? Consider This ..

OVERVIEW – Information on SRED loans in Canada. SR ED financing via a tax credit loan is the logical way to monetize your r&d capital credits for cash flow purposes

SR ED financing is the most efficient way to accelerate and monetize your investment in R&D capital. A SR&ED tax credit loan allows you to take maximum advantage of this most famous and used govt refundable tax credit. Why do SRED loans make sense for your firm then? Let's dig in.

Of course the actual ' formal ' name for the program is the Scientific Research & Experimental Development refundable tax credit .By the way , we've never been one for name calling , so whether you call it ' sred ' ' shred' or anything else for that matter only the importance of the program is key to us!

Canadian business owners and financial managers in a variety of industries have the ability to of course file sred claims, and at the same time, if they choose, they can finance their claim and generate immediate cash flow and working capital from this valuable government grant program. Again, to be clear, those funds are non repayable.

Safe to say that the only thing that prevents you from financing a claim is if you do not file a claim, so understanding the basics around a claim, as well as the characteristics that claim needs to be financed is valuable information for Canadian business owners and financial managers. The govt refunds billions of dollars every year under this program , and many owners/mgr choose to finance their claims.

Claims are filed and substantiated under the normal program guidelines. One of the misconceptions around the program is that your R&D has to be successful in nature, and that's actually NOT correct, you just have to be in a position to document what you did and how you did or tried it.

Although claims prepared by owners and management can be considered for financing, the reality is that if you are applying for sr&ed financing it makes a lot more sense to have your claim prepared by one of two parties, either your accountant , or what is known as a ' Sred Consultant '.

Claims have never been easier to file, as the govt has very much streamlined the program - but total care is needed to adhere to current filing guidelines - that's where those SRED consultants come in.

With the information we are sharing here we want to be able to ensure you understand how the quality and size of your claim affect its overall financeability. SRED claims are applied for in all sorts of amounts, we have seen clients file as low as 20,000 - 30,000$ per annum, and as high as 1.5 million dollars, and we are sure there have been higher claims.

The actual claim preparation has an effect on your claims financeability - as your goal, should you need the cash flow and working capital, is to monetize that claim into a short term sred loan - with the sred itself being the collateral for the loan.

When you choose to finance a claim the general advance is made at 70% - so let's do some rough arithmetic around a sample claim and it's financing.

We're told that in business timing is everything - As a business owner you can wait anywhere from 1-12 months to get your cheque in from the government, which is reimbursed at the federal and provincial levels. Or, if you choose to utilize those funds now under a sred loan, you can get an immediate loan of 70% of that claim.

What do clients do with their SRED Loan proceeds? Funds are typically used for working capital purposes, equipment purchases, or even more ongoing sred activity! Looking for more good news? No payments are made on your sred loan; financing costs are calculated at the back end of the claim when you receive your funds, including the previously mentioned 30% that was held back on the financing.

Furthermore, if you have successfully financed sred claims in the past you could be very eligible for sred accrual financing - which is a special program that reimburses you for your sred expenses as you go along during the year.

Traditional financing institutions such as banks and business credit unions are poorly equipped to understand and finance sred tax credits .As a result we recommend you work with a trusted and credible business financing advisor to ensure your claim can be financed quickly and with a modest amount of preparation.

A bottom line on SRED Loans? If you in fact utilize the SR&ED program consider cash flowing your claim to accelerate the monetization of your claim. Seek out and speak to a trusted, credible and experienced Canadian business financing advisor who can assist you in financing your R&D capital refund.
